Welcome to the Canal! Our School Board hosted a reception at our board meeting last week to welcome our new staff members! Several were able to join us for cake and conversation, giving board members a chance to get to know them and hear what brought them to Hood Canal and what they’re passionate about.

A Fresh Fall Treat! 🌽. Our fifth graders recently enjoyed fresh corn on the cob donated by Hunter Farms! School Board Member Annie Robbins reached out to Hunter Farms, which generously provided the fresh ears of corn for this special fall snack.

Fresh from local farms to Hood Canal School! 🥕🥬Here are a couple of photos of our latest deliveries through the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program. Our food service team is putting this fresh produce to work in scratch-cooked meals and on our salad bar.

Our Orcas officially kicked off volleyball and football practice today! It is so great to see our student-athletes back together, meeting with their coaches, learning, practicing, and getting ready for the season ahead!

Construction progress is moving right along! 🚧
These photos show the new entrance from Highway 106 to the future bus loop. The new access road will wrap around the edge of the existing parking lot and continue through the former playground area. Beyond that, on the north side of the field, will be our new transportation center and bus parking area.
Crews will soon begin finishing the roads and then move toward preparing the site for our new playground. This phase—including the bus loop and playground—is currently scheduled for completion by January 1.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding throughout construction. There is still plenty of work ahead, but it is exciting to see the progress and think about everything that will be accomplished over the next three years! We’ll continue keeping our community updated along the way.

A meaningful milestone for our school and community.
Last week, the Skokomish Indian Tribe led a traditional site blessing ceremony to mark the beginning of the Hood Canal School modernization and expansion project. The ceremony honored the land, recognized the significance of the work ahead, and celebrated a partnership that has helped shape this project from the very beginning.
We’re deeply grateful to the Skokomish Tribe for its leadership and partnership throughout the planning and design process. From the site blessing to collaboration on the water system, trail, Skokomish timber, artwork, and other design elements, this project reflects what is possible when we work together for the benefit of our students and community.
Following the ceremony, the Hood Canal School Board also recommended Jones & Roberts Company as the project’s general contractor (pending final OSPI approval). In a full-circle moment, Jones & Roberts was also the contractor that built our current school nearly 20 years ago.
We also invite everyone to join us for our Community Groundbreaking Ceremony on Tuesday, September 1, at 4:00 p.m. as we celebrate the beginning of this exciting new chapter for Hood Canal School.

Last week, Hood Canal School introduced a new end-of-year tradition: Move-Up Day! Students visited next year’s classrooms, met their future teachers, and participated in fun activities to help them feel excited and prepared for the year ahead. Here, our current 2nd graders are getting a preview of 3rd grade as they look forward to another year of learning and growth.
Our Child Nutrition Team did it again! Yesterday, they took lunch outdoors and fired up the grill to prepare a delicious barbecue lunch for our students. Thanks to the support of our wonderful volunteers, everything ran smoothly and students were able to enjoy a fun meal outside on a beautiful day.
There’s just something special about eating lunch outdoors with friends, and judging by the smiles, our students absolutely loved it!

Join us in the Hood Canal Gym on June 15, 2026 at 4:30pm - 5:30pm for this special celebration of our 8th graders as they transition to Shelton. Family and friends are welcome! There will be a short reception after the ceremony. Hope to see you there!
This week, our transportation team celebrated students who have served as outstanding bus helpers throughout the school year. These student leaders have supported younger riders, helped maintain a safe and positive bus environment, and set a great example for their peers.
To recognize their hard work and dedication, our bus drivers hosted a special pizza and video game celebration. Thank you to our transportation team for honoring these students and for the care and support they provide to our riders every day!
