Today, they kicked off their experience with interactive group activities focused on exploring the watershed. Through teamwork and outdoor discovery, they’re gaining a deeper understanding of our environment and the importance of water in our ecosystem. 🌎💧

This month, we take special pride in celebrating Native American Heritage Month and honoring the deep cultural roots of the Skokomish Tribe and the Tuwaduq people, whose history and traditions are woven into the fabric of our community. Hood Canal School is privileged to be located in the heart of the Skokomish Reservation, on land generously donated by Skokomish families, creating a place of learning that brought together children from across our region.
This heritage month, we recognize the significance of this land, the enduring legacy of the Tuwaduq people, and the invaluable contributions of our Native students, families, and community members. These compassionate students raised $494.10 for the Humane Society by creating and selling cat toys and dog treats, all in memory of our beloved head cook, Lois Wagner, who touched so many lives here at Hood Canal School before her passing this fall. 🐾

This week, we were thrilled to welcome Shannon Crabb-Stanton, Cindi Amadio, Kelli Kohout, and Kathy Geist, who presented the school with a generous check for $7,500—funds raised at this year’s Hoodstock Festival. This generous donation will make a lasting impact, helping us inspire a love of music and creativity in our students.

Our talented students got into the fall spirit by decorating pumpkins inspired by their favorite books and literary characters! Each class put their creativity to the test, transforming pumpkins into everything from classic storybook characters to today’s beloved heroes. The results were both impressive and hilarious, with each pumpkin telling its own unique story. 📚✨

Hello Hood Canal Families,
As Halloween draws closer, we want to ensure that our students have a safe and successful day at school while still being able to celebrate the day. As a reminder, October 31st is a normal school day and dressing up for Halloween is optional. However, if students decide to dress up, then please be sure they are aware of the following costume expectations.
- Students must wear regular school shoes. Heels are not allowed.
- No blood or gore is allowed.
- No weapons (swords, toy guns, daggers etc. Wands are allowed but will be taken away if they become a distraction).
- No masks. We must be able to identify each student. Makeup is okay.
- The costume needs to be one that students can easily get in and out of to use the bathroom without teacher assistance.
- All costumes must align with school district dress code policy (if you are unfamiliar with the dress code, it is detailed in the school hand book that was handed out at conferences).
- Capes are allowed but must be an appropriate length so that students won’t trip.
