Hood Canal School District is proud to announce that we have been awarded a $21,000 Farm-to-School Purchasing Grant from the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA). The award is part of the 2025–27 Farm to School program, which helps schools bring fresh, locally grown foods into school meal programs.

This grant will allow Hood Canal to purchase foods that are grown, raised, caught, or foraged right here in Washington. By doing so, we are building a stronger connection between our school and local farms—supporting our state’s growers while providing our students with high-quality, nutritious, and culturally relevant meals.

Hood Canal was one of just a handful of districts in the state selected through our Child Nutrition Cooperative (CNC) membership. In fact, CNC districts made up nearly 10% of all the schools funded statewide.

“We’re excited about what this means for our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Lance Gibbon. “This grant strengthens our school meals while also investing in Washington’s farmers and food producers. It’s a win-win for kids and our community.”

The Farm-to-School Purchasing Grant is designed to encourage schools to buy more Washington-grown products, from fruits and vegetables to seafood and meats. At Hood Canal, this funding will expand opportunities for students to enjoy fresh, local meals and deepen their understanding of where their food comes from.
